A leaflet posted through Staffordshire letterboxes has caused outrage amongst the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community across the country.

The flyer appears to be a campaigning leaflet for David Nixon, UKIP’s candidate in the Stone Rural area, where he is challenging a current member of the County Council’s cabinet.  But the party nationally says it cannot verify whether it has been produced by them or not.

The leaflet was widely shared on the social network site, Twitter.

There are warnings against the alleged introduction of “explicit” homosexual sex education in schools and comments are made about child abuse.

Commenting on same-sex marriage, the author claims a child “should have the right to a mother and father” and says bisexuals demand the right to marry a man and a woman.

StaffsLive has tried to contact Mr Nixon, who was a Staffordshire County Councillor before the election, but he has not yet replied.

UKIP’s head office told StaffsLive they couldn’t verify the leaflet. A spokesperson said: “We’ve had a lot of cases like this up and down the country, and sometimes they are fake leaflets put out there.”

Stafford Borough councillor, Labour’s Rowan Draper, has responded with anger on his blog, calling the leaflet “vile” and for Mr Nixon to withdraw from the election.
